Hello All,

To those that have owned a LH or an LX sedan can they please educate me on the common rust prone areas etc. Dont stress about the runnign gear I can do this in my sleep. Reason I ask is the girlie is starting to make noises about getting a torana again... While the LH/X is not my favourite torana (give me a lc any day) I would rather build one of these than build a XP (which was the other though from her... and yes while I like the XP I would not own one.)

This is something that will not be happening until I get my own place and a proper Garage/workshop area. Plus have to sell a few things first too... Hoping 6 months away.... watch this space.

First of all... the LH and LX Torana's ARE the REAL Torana's. So at least she has her head screwed on the right way

I'm certainly no expert, but from my experience with regards to the rust.... here are some key areas I would be looking at which are common for evil old rust in the sedans:

* Lower rear quarter panels
* Lower area of rear windscreen (ie. where it meets the boot area)
* Sills & floorpans obviously
* Plenum area near heater (passenger side under the dash) - very common
* Behind bonnet hinges (hard to tell without removing hinges)
* Battery tray in engine bay
* Doors - bottom area if the drain holes have been blocked
* Doors - top outer edge (the flat section where the outer window rubber seal clicks in)

They're the main areas that spring to mind for me.... hopefully someone else will offer advice from their experience too.

All pretty much covered above but of course the hatches are a different story - C pillar section, hatch hinge area, base of C pillars etc

radiator support lower. round both widscreens almost everywhere really except maybe middle of the roof. also pull out the kick panels and have a look at the base of the pillars, normally they rust there due to the mud and water collecting at the bottom of the guard where it meets the pillar
