Yeah that was back in 2004. First and last burnout comp for me. I broke the dizzy, busted the flare, and damaged both rear doors and quarters. Still haven't repaired the damage 6 years later, LOL.

Great build up mate. Very motivating.

Dear diary...

Yes the 383 finally let go! After putting up with the lower oil pressure for 2 years (since my Easternats incident), my luck has ended. I was driving to work on Friday, mild acceleration in first gear, about to change to second, when BANG!!! It sounded like half the engine shattered apart inside. I backed off instantly and pulled it up on the side of the road. It was still running (barely), like at 400rpm as I turned it off. Strong oil smell, and a small amount of smoke.

Anyway, no external damage, no rods punched through the block, no oil leaks or anything cool like that.

I flat towed it home and she's now parked up awaiting an autopsy. I cranked it over for a second or two just for interests sake, and there's definitely some fairly decent bottom end grumbling going on. But at least it hasn't seized up.

I'm keen as to rip it apart and find out what happened! Who wants to take a guess?

At least now I can finally do the freshen up I've been wanting to do for a long time. My old cam will be going back in (smaller hydraulic) to replace the solid, and a smaller carby too.

From memory, I think I fitted the Chev around 2002, and it's been apart once in that time when I changed the combo to forged pistons and solid cam. It's had a fair workout over the years, with a lot of km's put on the clock, so I'm not too sad! LOL.

She'll be back....... but I'm in no hurry. Need to do some fundraising first. Oh, and I plan to build another carport first too, so I can pull it apart undercover and work on it.

Then again, it sounds like it could have been a lot worse, so as long as you can use most of the parts then that's okay, bit of a shame that all this stuff costs money though

Only time will tell - but fingers crossed the block, crank, rods, pistons, heads, valves etc are all ok to re-use. It's when you start replacing major components that all of a sudden the build snowballs and gets out of control.

This would actually be an appropriate time to fit the 6/71 supercharger I just need a sponsor!

So, is 'SHUBES' back to daily duties? Or are you fast tracking its repairs?
