we think mine split a bore first brett. but it hydrauliced and then smashed the big end bearing to pieces, looks identical to yours but the only reason i reckon the bearing failed first in yours is due to the low oil pressure you had for some time i reckon it hurt a bearing back a while ago and finally picked it up, and spun it. the clearance that you will gain when there isnt a bearing in there anymore is enough for a high lift cam to allow a valve to just clip the top of the piston and bend the valve then it doesnt close and when it comes up on the comp stroke whack it cleans it up again.

Damn mate, that's nasty. I'm with the others, just drop a stock 350, even a shitty 305 (like the POS in my car lol) and build up something nice later.

Hmmm.. good discussion. Thanks for all the feedback. Diagnosing blow-ups is fun! But I don't want to make this a regular thing :o

When I can scrape some pennies together, I will investigate the 350 bottom end idea for sure.. might even chat with Bruce. Thanks for the heads-up on that one Dave.

Ouch!!!! Bretto, Must have been a decent noise when she let go. Look at it this way, There's a few spares for trophy's or house ornaments from your engine.
May the 383 R.I.P, but i'm sure LXCHEV will be cruising the streets once again soon.

Hey, you know a big block would be nice and strong, and would look very pretty in there. You know Howard Bells SLR8000 was one of the coolest cars around........

Brett, I like the idea of making house ornaments from all the goodies. I'll put my thinking cap on and come up with some creative ideas :) I might polish up a couple of pistons and donate them to the club for trophies too, that's a pretty cool idea.

Dan.... don't get me started on a big block! That's a whole new conversion and driveline. It would be nice though. PS. SLR8000 is still one of the coolest cars around, that thing has more than stood the test of time.

Dont waste your time with the heads mate set of dart pro 1 cost a few K's but would make it a completely different animal compared to those puppies.

you got the chance now dont waste cash on half assing it .

Nothing less then 400 cubes scat crank/rods hald decent cam nothing over the top in rockers plus pro 1 heads and you make 500-600 hp with out a problem all day long.

Thou a nice crate 502 would look nice.

Heres a tease of what l got a few weeks ago for the little rotary the build has started as well.

Not bad Denis, sounds like you're building a weapon there.

Unfortunately for my build, I have no cash to throw at it. Plus I want to turn the car back into more of a cruiser. A few years down the track, I'd like to build another engine exactly like what you're talking about. But for now, I just need to get her running again for minimum bucks!

PS. You should start a build-up thread on your car and your new engine build so everyone on here can see what you're up to :)
