As usual, we all gathered at Club Kilsyth mid afternoon, to head off to Gilwell Park, which is near Gembrook. It was fairly warm so passengers in the cars drank a little, some maybe drank a little too much which made for some interesting sights on the cruise, you all know who you are. Anyway, that was pretty good. As usual we got lost again but to our amazement it was Andrew who finally found our way, it’s usually him that gets us lost!! Oh well. When we got there it was a mad rush to find the best location to set up camp. For the first time I didn’t have to set anything up - how cool! (The new work van is more like a bus). So it was straight into the cans for me, whilst I waited for every one else to set up. We decided it was a good idea to head off to the huge Obstacle course which was great fun, and only a quick walk away from the campsite. The rope climb was the best one but it was about 3 metres off the ground!! Bit too much grog by then but I did it anyway! Sober – no way in hell! A couple of the guys who had too much energy decided to run the entire course flat-out and time themselves, whilst most people were quite happy to just stroll along. It appeared we had the entire park all to ourselves, so that made for a very relaxing and laid-back time out in the bush. Anyway, it was time to head back to camp…… We had games to play, so we got to it. Spark plug removal was the first one, I had improved a lot since the last time, practice makes perfect! Then came the alternator throwing comp. What else would we be hurtling through the air?? In the end Lee was the quickest at changing the plugs, whilst James took out the alternator toss. Sorry, I can’t remember who took the honours for the ladies. Next it was time to present the annual club member awards for another year. What better place than at the Christmas party! (See below for the winners). Well we had tea, drank some more, then sat around and discovered leaches and spiders – Fun, fun, fun! At around 1am it was time to hit the obstacle course for a second tilt, boy what a mistake…It took us a while to get around it but we did. I lied in a pipe as that was about all I could do by this stage, and Brett and Kat thought it would be a good idea if they tried to get the pipe to do a 360 degree loop, whilst I was in it. That was ace. We finally made it back to camp, sat down and drank some more, then it was off to the bus for the next couple of hours. 9 people joined us there within minutes, soon we were all chatting, drinking & even wrestling. Then came Renee and that damn country music, which could be heard by every one. Yuck. Soon every one went to bed, and it was then that the bus started to spin. All night in fact, it wouldn’t stop, so I woke up at 7am - Wow 1 hours sleep, sat on the chair, wishing that I didn’t quite drink that much. We left at about 12pm and that was that. What a good weekend it was. PS. Always when camping check that you have brought your air bag plug as the ground is not that great to sleep on even when intoxicated is it KAT?! He he he he. Club Member Trophies – 2004As usual, the committee decided on two awards – the “High Mileage Cruiser” trophy for someone who is always there, always attending runs and participating as much as possible – this year it went to Dean Roberts, a clear winner. Congratulations once again Dean! The second trophy – being the “High Output” one, is awarded to someone who is actively seen not only participating and attending runs, but also going a step further and assisting with organising various things for events etc. This year, Simon Kingswell walked away with that one! Good on ya Sime! A job well done. - Woz |
