The second cruise for the year was a leisurely Sunday arvo drive down the Westernport Highway on the Mornington Peninsula. As per the norm, we met at Club Kilsyth to begin our trek. Instructions were handed out and a brief description given with a special highlight to read Freeway exit signs carefully, then we went on our way. Somehow we still managed to lose two cars at the first chance possible! We regrouped a little further along the road to let them catch-up. The line of cars would have been impressive with around 18 cars of various makes, models and colours there. When we got going again the trip went smoothly, with a fuel stop at Hastings for Mark in “the mighty G”. Then we continued to a back beach car park which Adrian and Liz showed me previously for photos. Schubes with the cubes met us here and was already taking advantage of the photo opportunities when we arrived. Approximately 30 minutes later we were back on the road again. The cruise got to the interesting stage with lots of tight (toight) corners, which made for some entertaining antics. As expected Gunnamatta was freezing, but we set the cars up for people who wanted to take photos and fired up the BBQ. Quentin arrived shortly after in an Austin Healy Sprite. All he needed was the beret, scarf and driving gloves and he would have been a picture straight from the 60’s! Although I do believe he traveled with the roof off because his head would have kept hitting the roof. After watching the kite surfers on the beach and a yum dinner we set off for home. On the return leg we followed the Mornington Freeway to Frankston and we all made our own way from there. - Tamara & Paul |
