Some extremely miserable weather in the lead-up to this day had us all thinking the worst, however come Saturday, it was great to still see a nice turnout of cars, although smallish when compared with previous displays. The weather was actually quite nice for the first few hours, but around lunchtime those grey clouds rolled over and the sky decided to treat us to some more rain. (I have never seen 'sideways' rain quite like it).... Luckily we could all just run for cover into Autobarn! Some Highlights of the day: On display was a small block Chev powered drag boat “Siege”, a very serious piece of gear indeed!! We also had a Stinger car audio car on display, and of course the trusty old Torana BBQ trailer was there looking a treat. We also had a lady from Lucky magazine interviewing a couple of our girls in the club and doing a small photoshoot with them for an article she's working on. As far as the main display itself, we had a solid 16-18 cars there the whole day, as well as around a further 10 that appeared throughout the day. A special note to a couple of the guys – was great to see that Dave managed to get his Chevy powered Gemini all back together in time after it’s fresh new blue paintjob. And Scott got his Valiant along for it’s first club outing after being off the road for the last 8 months or so. All the other club cars were looking fantastic and I enjoyed seeing a few new cars dropping down to participate too, not to mention there were also some people from the Torana forums, and others who read about the day in the Trading Post. Everything from big cube V8's, to 4’s, 6’s, and rotaries, from mild streeters, to stock daily drivers, and some big stereo’s, there was certainly a bit of everything! The managers/owners at Autobarn were very happy with the day, and kindly put up 3 huge prize packs for us. They proceeded to walk around choosing their favourite cars, and then presented the awards in the arvo. This is what they decided on:
Congrats to our 3 winners! The prize packs were unbelievable too - chockers full of car-care products, detailers, washes, waxes, polishes, Pioneer shirts, sponges, etc etc etc!! Nice work! I would like to say a huge thank-you to the CFA for coming down and cooking up a BBQ lunch, and also and even bigger thank-you to all the friendly, helpful staff at Autobarn, Chirnside Park. All in all, another great day….. - Brett Schubert |
