Brocky’s Big Day Out For Charity - Hurstbridge

4th September 2005

Well the day began meeting up at Officeworks in Ringwood, (we were running a tad late due to both mine & Jason’s batteries deciding to cark it on the day). We pretty much arrived, got out of the cars and then we had to get back in them and tag along with the cruise which was organized by the 60-80’s car club.

The cruise headed out thru Kangaroo Ground and onto Diamond Creek where we had a second meeting point at the local McDonalds. After waiting around for a little bit we ended up leaving in individual car clubs, to break it up a bit. Although seeing how there were only 5 Eastsider’s we tagged along with the EH club and continued on our way to Hurstbridge.

As we hit the town, we drove thru the Wattle Festival which was coinciding with the day. As we continued on we got stuck in huge queues waiting to get into Brocky’s car show. The cars heated up as we stayed in the line for a little while, and before too long we were entering the grounds.

For all of you who have been before, you may be aware the venue was changed this year. For the last few years it’s been held at the Yarra Glen racecourse but this year was moved to Hurstbridge.

As we looked around at the cars on display, we noticed up on the main road the police bikes and a few hot rods, a few seconds later the sirens went on and in came, escorted by the police, Peter Brock (in a FORD, what the?), and following close by was Alan Moffat also in a nice hot rod.

The venue turned out to be quite different from what we originally hoped. Expecting it to be bigger & better we were a little disappointed to see it wasn’t the best place to hold this venue for such a large quantity of cars. And because of a few reasons such as where cars got parked due to lack of room, there were a few unhappy entrants on the day. But the weather was great and we were in the company of friends which made the day!!

Cars in attendance from the club were:

  • My EH sedan (EHGIRL)
  • Brett’s granny pack LX hatchback (SHUBES)
  • Jason’s VH Commo (HYPED)
  • Brett Smythe’s LX SS hatchback
  • Also tagging along was a clean looking Valiant Pacer (one of Brett’s mates)

Due to the fact we were parked kinda on the outside of the show, most of us hung around our cars and just sat back and relaxed for the arvo, so I’m not too sure who won trophies, or prizes for the day. There was also a huge auction – they even sold a shed!

All and all it was a great day, as I said a little disappointing in some areas, but hopefully next year they will return it back to the old venue and it will be bigger and better. A plus was the huge variety of cars on the day, Hot Rod’s, GT’s, Commodores, EH’s, Chev’s, Monaro’s, race cars (including Brock’s A9X and Moffat’s Mustang) - just a wide selection, even a Torana Ute?? Yes, another WHAT THE??

Thanks to the 60-80’s Enthusiasts Car Club for organizing the cruise to Hurtsbridge, its always a fun cruise they organize each year.

See you all next time when we go CAR-RUZIN!!!
