Club Christmas BBQ

6th December 2005

Well another year is over, and what better way to end it than with a casual get together around the BBQ for a free feed for all members! Unlike the previous few years where the club has gone off camping for the Christmas party, this year we thought we’d try something a bit simpler and different – so a midweek evening BBQ was planned! After so many nice hot nights, unfortunately it decided to rain on this particular occasion, however that didn’t stop a solid 30+ people still showing up on what was a rainy Tuesday night….

The venue chosen was the Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground at the base of the Mount Dandenong Tourist Rd, a great spot to park the cars, and the undercover sheltered area kept us all nice and dry once the rain and drizzle started.

As we all sat around comfortably under shelter, we watched the mad panic of the other people there who got caught out in the weather. Some quick and clever manouvering of the Torana BBQ trailer enabled us to cook undercover too. We kicked back eating hot snags, salad, and of course a few Christmas drinks!

Simon bought along the clubs recently acquired trophies from Springnats – not one, but two 1st Place Club Trophies! So it was great to check them out and talk about all the stories from Shepparton. Not much else to say really – everyone seemed to be having a great time, but suddenly it was getting dark very quickly! We were no where near ready to leave yet, so Gav and Ian saved the day by cruising off to go and pick up a generator and lighting!!!!, returning a short while later turning night into day! Thanks heaps guys, that was awesome!! For those of you who know Gav, he doesn’t do things by halves, so our picnic area was lit up like nothing else!

It was also fantastic to see a couple of new faces there too. As I left, there were still plenty of people left hanging out and chatting. Many thanks to Simon and Tam for organising the BBQ, and to all the others who were involved too. It was a great feed, and excellent to see so many people still turn up despite the bad weather! Catch you all on the next cruise……
