The night started off with a short meeting at home base to cover the basics at our June club meeting, and it was the perfect way to round up the troops. As soon as the meeting finished, it was time to cruise! Visibility on the night was only about 50m which resulted in some hesitation to proceed up the mountain as there was fear of much worse fog and the notorious black ice on the road. The crew were given their orders by the chief that we were only going to complete this mission if we were to behave and take it easy, which from my observations was well complied with. The directions for the cruise were identical to the directions used when getting from Melbourne to Sydney on the Hume Hwy, as a total of 4 right hand and 3 left hand turn were made to complete the large block which covered Kilsyth, Lilydale, Mt Dandenong and ended up finishing at FTG McDonalds. Funnily enough, after all the initial concern about the crazy fog, it turned out that it couldn’t have been any clearer up the actual mountain itself! About 14 vehicles attended the cruise, and considering the conditions, it shows the great dedication that our club has to cruising. With every one being on their best behaviour on the night, it made the cruise a safe and laid back week night drive. The only concern that I have is, when’s the next one… - David (DC) |
