On the 29th of Jan, a group of us decided to take the racing spirit in us out onto the go-kart track. Also it just so happened to be my birthday and what better way to spend it than racing around a quarter mile of racetrack with a close group of friends. We all met at Club Kilsyth at one o’clock - there were about 7 cars and I was lucky enough to be driving Ado’s Ute! We finally got away, running a bit late but honestly when are we on time! First stop was the servo so that E-tags could be purchased then off we went. Travelling was going fine until we had to exit. Two cars missed the exit, the rest of us made it, but my navigator wasn’t paying attention so we turned the wrong way taking Dean’s car with us (this is the second time I have got Dean lost on a run). Not to worry – Kath and Sime were quickly on the phones calling the lost and soon enough we found ourselves outside Auskarts. We all clambered inside eager to race and lucky we were late cause it enabled us to just jump straight on. READY, SET, RACE!!!! The set up worked like this: there were 10 warm up laps to find the grid, then a 10 lap race, then a reverse grid 10 lap race. We were all off to a great start, the karts were well maintained and the track was good so we maintained a good speed. Ten laps were over in no time and the grid was set. There were no surprises who was up front - Gordz taking the lead followed closely by Paul, Simon and Kath in no particular order. I came in 7th to my surprise and was quite happy with that. Eager to do better the first race was on….. This time it was not so tame, Karts were spinning out left and right, Lee T-boned me a beauty but rubbing’s racing! I had just got some speed back when I felt an almighty shove from behind and turning to look it was none other than our club vice president, Kath, and she was shining that innocent smile at me that we all know and love, how can you be angry at that. Next race reverse grid, getting a bit tired at this stage we were at it again. The low position karts were fighting hard to keep their positions. Little did we know that where you came in this race was your overall result?! Soon the 10 laps were over and we all emerged from our Karts battered and bruised to find our spectators happily sucking down a beer. Time for a drink and then the results. Everyone eagerly crowded around. Paul had taken out the title - well done! Mixed results were made quite a few had lap times in the top 30 for the day at the track and as for last well you guessed it….. me. Pumped that I got out alive we all headed back to the cars. Everyone left in their own time and the general consensus was a great day by all. Thanks for reading hope to see you at the next one….. - Liz |
