Mystery Cruise With The 60-80’s Club

15th May 2005

Meeting up at the Stamford Hotel around 9am, it was a ripper of a turnout – 38 cars in total from a whole lot of different car clubs. Mainly Holden’s – but a few other makes too with bits & pieces of everything, from nice old classics to modern, and stockie’s to modified V8’s with twin carbs poking through the bonnet! Some very nice cars were in attendance, and why not as the weather was beautiful for a cruise….

Shortly after 9:30, the organisers from the 60 – 80’s club who were hosting the day, began sending cars off on their way, staggering them every few minutes. I was strapped into Deb’s EH, assigned the role of official navigator for the day. Liz and Ado were right behind us in the mighty Ute. And so we set off with our instructions and clues, our eyes darting madly around looking for all sorts of things. No major drama’s at all – we didn’t get lost once, and managed to do pretty well on the questions, with only one or two leaving us scratching our heads!….

The cruise itself was great too, thoroughly enjoyable. From Rowville, it went out to Endeavour Hills and onto Fountain Gate, where we had to stop and get out to answer more questions. From there it was back into the cars and onto the second leg of the journey, where we eventually wound up at the final destination – the Churchill National Park. We found a carpark and checked out some of the other cars before heading over and handing in our sheets. We were then treated to a delicious sausage sizzle, which went down a treat. We kicked back in the sun and enjoyed ourselves, and later on the winners were announced and presented with their awards. Hats off to the 60 - 80’s, an excellent, fun, well planned day! Thanks for having us along…
