Well what can I say, what a fantastic car show for all Holden owners and a great family day as well with rides etc for the kids. The event was held on Sunday 29th January at Sandown racecourse. Five cars in total entered from the club (Jason’s VH Commo, DC’s LX Hatch, Shubes LX CHEV, Paul’s Gemini wagon, and my LX Hatch). A small group of us met at 8am in Boronia and convoyed together. Once our cars were parked inside, we all did the usual, finish final touches to the cars, lift bonnets, clean wheels etc. It didn’t take long to break a sweat, when the morning was already hitting 20+ degrees at 9am.
Once set up, we took a walk around for a look. As usual, there was everything from stock, modified, mild, wild and race cars. There was a few Supercharged, Turbo’d and Nitros Oxide cars. A good variation you could say. Not sure how many entered, but there was plenty to look at. Our first stop was of course the shiny line of Torana’s. Two A9X race cars caused plenty of attention. Shubes and I noticed there was some tough competition for the awards. A big turnout from the EH, HDT/HSV, Monaro and FB-EK car clubs….
One of the highlight cars was a HT Monaro with I think 20” shiny wheels with the plates “NEWSUX”. A show car - detailed in every way. Another stand-out car was a registered HQ Ute with two exposed bottles of Laughing gas on the tray. From what I saw, it was all hooked up ready for use.
The awards were supposed to start at 4pm, but they ended up starting a bit late around 4:20pm. A long wait on a bloody hot day. We had to wait a while, because they start at the 48-215 (FX) and work the way through up the years. There were so many EH’s that they had 4 placing’s for Original. The Torana awards were read out and no luck. VH Commodore Modified 1st place went to Jason. I think the smile on his face said it all. Well deserved for a neat car.
See you all there next time.
