Fast & The Furious (Tokyo Drift) Movie Night

Tues 4th July 2006

Well it was cold night on the 4th of July when we all got together to see the much anticipated addition to the Fast and Furious collection, “TOKYO DRIFT”.

There was a bit of crew around, unfortunately being a few weeks after opening some members just couldn’t wait, but we were all looking forward to seeing it...

We had been given a bunch of different reports, some good, some bad, however all in all I got the impression everyone was looking forward to seeing it.

Just prior to the entering the cinemas, Dee and Cath emerged, having snuck in to see an earlier session, but timing it nicely to still catch up with everyone. It was good to see them, and they didn’t even let anything slip about the movie.

The opening scene was very typical of Fast and Furious, fast cars doing skids and having massive stacks. The main character had the most annoying southern accent, but if you got past that, and took a sense of humour into the cinema with you, it wasn’t a bad way to spend two hours.

Most of the movie is set in Tokyo, where drift is king, and turbos rule! As with the other Fast and Furious movies, the plot was fairly lame, but the car action was cool. Shots of cars drifting through peak hour traffic at freeway speeds leaving black marks on the road is always cool! What is not cool however, is putting a Nissan engine into a Ford Mustang!

Overall, it is safe to say if it wasn’t full of sliding cars, the movie would be pretty average, but given all the car action, it is definitely worth a look.
