G'day all. I was looking forward to the DECA Day for quite sometime, there was talk about it in previous club meetings and runs and as each one drew to a close the day got closer and closer. Finally it arrived and I can tell you it was the best run that I have been on so far. It was my first year at DECA and and I had plenty of enthusiasm to get on the skidpan and go nuts. I brought the trusty old EB up and after scrutineering got stuck into the events. By far my favourite event was the first one we did, The Twister, it was grouse fun trying to drift round the cones and getting the odd tyre screech. I know I had a ball up there and everyone else looked like they were having fun. It was definitely worth the long drive up there and I can't wait till next year as I’m sure all you guys can't either. - Cheers, Andy (EB sedan) DECA Day Part 2After being a spectator at the last one, I was NOT going to miss out on this event, no bloody way!!! The day started at 5.30am in the dark & cold with a long drive with no heater and the windows down to stop the windows from fogging up. The trip was uneventful and we arrived with plenty of time to get the car checked and into the line. On my first run my enthusiasm outweighed my driving ability and that run turned into a wholesale expression session. It also seemed to be the case with several others, including Gary, who often thought the course was a huge circle to be driven around sideways! Then there was Chris who tried several times to blot out the sun with his smoke….. and almost succeeded! Notable driving efforts go to James & Cliff who each won two of four events. Every one else was out there giving it a red hot go with varying degrees of success. When not driving, good entertainment was provided by others out on the skid pan, and challenging friends to do better. It was great to see several of the female members thrashing it out on the skid pan this year too! And we must not forget the victims of the day…. One LJ Torana diff, one LX Torana 9” diff LSD, one HZ Panelvan auto AND tail-shaft & one sprinkler…. RIP. Thanks heaps to Paul for organising the day, Shannon’s for their financial support, everyone who entered & followed the basic rules of the day to make it great fun. Bring on the next one!!!! - Simon DECA Day Part 3Firstly I want to thank each and every person who attended and especially those who helped in various ways to make the day run very smoothly. The day started with a mild safety scrutineering session with most cars passing easily. There were a couple of mild safety concerns which were quickly attended to. The event was based mostly on last years operation with four courses each lasting around 2 hours. We kept the favourite from last year and added 2 CAMS champ courses and a freestyle course to let out the frustrations. The competition was fierce both for times and freestyle driving techniques. Most events were won in the last few minutes. Upon early inspection it appeared there were numerous different winners, but closer inspection corrected that with 2 entrants winning 2 courses each. A surprise showed up that a separate entrant was so consistent all day that he almost stole the overall first place. A drive by his girlfriend perhaps costing him valuable points, although she set the 3rd fastest time for the course, maybe if she drove all day she may have won. All reports prove everyone had a great day, a lot of people say that they would prefer to pay more to have less cars and more drive time, and perhaps the event to be more regular. Talk to your committee and maybe this could happen. Everyone behaved well and most of all everyone cleaned up after themselves. If everyone does this it makes it enjoyable for all. So thankyou & congratulations to everyone for how they represented the club on the day. Although I didn’t get to drive on the day I did have lots of fun as a passenger in many cars that I wouldn’t normally get to ride in. - Paul W. ResultsTrophy presentation
