Scenic Midnight Cruise

25th February 2006

Being a miserable Melbourne Saturday night, the hopes of a long peaceful cruise was looking dim. We all met up at the normal location of the charcoaled Club Kilsyth, with various people turning up just for a social chat, not game to endeavour the 150 odd kilometre challenge that lied ahead.

Considering the weather it was excellent to see so many high quality machines turn up. With a total of 12 vehicles cruising, the variety of vehicles was amazing with everything from utes, torana’s, commo’s, the odd falcon and even a big block panel van! Keith even braved the elements and arrived in full gangster style with the world’s largest Sunkist can. What a sight! The big bright pearl orange Chevy with 18inch chrome spokies stunned everyone!

After the fat was chewed for a while, the orders to proceed were given by Cruise Chief, Paul. The socialites dissipated and the cruisers were off to enjoy the lime light. The maps directed us down towards Edithvale where a fuel stop was made and a chance to re-bunch, then up Beach Rd where the weather was starting to improve. Sneaking quietly through some unknown back streets somehow got us on to the start of the Westgate bridge. Proceeding over the Westgate as the sky’s cleared up, was a magical sight indeed. A couple of dogleg turns and another pit stop, this time in a quiet back street where we rounded up the troops again.

Upon leaving it was discovered that I had obtained a random hitch hiker and after questioning the known patrons in the car of who the hell this freeloader was, it was soon determined that no-one knew him and he was swiftly removed, in order for us to make our way through the Docklands. The highlight of my night was rumbling through the city, what a great cruise.

A quick detour through the Yarra Boulevard to arrive at our final destination, the 24 hour Pancake Parlour, where everyone had a late night snack. What an idea…Especially at 2.30 in the morning, when various passengers hangovers were starting to occur.

All in all, the initial raining weather was out weighed by the lack of other cars on the road which made it easy for everyone to stay in close formation and cruise along nicely together and the atmosphere was great due to public being in a party mood and everyone being well behaved.
