We all met up at our old club meeting venue - the Club Kilsyth car park. After everyone had arrived, DC announced that because Peter Brock had died in a car crash during the Targa rally, the cruise to Silhouette would now be a memorial cruise in his honour. In total we had around 10 – 15 cars and as this was a memorial cruise, everyone had their lights on. This definitely made the club stand out on the windy roads through Eltham. After around an hour of driving we had arrived at Silhouette Karts on the Hume and it was time for everyone to show off some driving skills. The Silhouette Karts were the quickest Karts I’d been on, probably because they didn’t have the extra steel crash bars like some of the dodgem style Karts at other tracks and with the two stroke motors they definitely revved. This extra speed meant some of us had a hard time staying on the track, especially Lee who some how managed to go through a tyre wall 5 metres off the track and get himself rather stuck. During the pre-race safety talk we were told not to jump on the brake pedal as they would lock the rear wheels like a hand brake, which sounded to me like a silly thing to say around the drift boys. The track had some long straights to get some speed up and this meant there was plenty of drift action had by all coming into the tight corners. Especially from Mackie and his mates which quickly saw the warning sign come out, not that this slowed anyone down. Overall after the 20 - 30 minutes of track time everyone had smiles ear to ear, not to mention the bruises and tired arms from trying to peel the tyres off the karts. This event was definitely one of the best the club has held this year and no doubt we will be visiting them again in the future. - Ian Go Kart Day Official Results
Here’s some other miscellaneous stats from the day from looking at the result sheets: Highest number of laps was tied between Michael (Stormy) and James (Mackie), both completing 36 laps. Biggest improver was Erica. Her best time of 56.29 in her 1st session dropped to 46.56 in her 2nd session!
