On Sat 20th May 2006, ten Eastside Cruisers put on their thinking caps to take part in the Southern Street Machiner’s Trivia night which was held at the Clayton Lawn Bowls Club. The mighty Eastside team consisted of Adrian, Liz, Tam, Paul, Dean, Alex, DC, Ian, Deb and Brett. Once we arrived we appointed Brett as our captain and quickly surveyed the room to size up the competition (and find the bar). Each team consisted of young people, older people and even children. There were 8 teams competing, with 6 trivia rounds plus games in between rounds to earn bonus points for your team. Each trivia round had a different theme. For example round 1, we listened to music and had to write down the following line, or the exact name of the tune. In other rounds we got to watch TV and of course there was general trivia. After a few drinks to settle our nerves Team Eastside got into the spirit of the night. After listening to a couple of songs we were all getting into the spirit of things. The hardest part was not to continue the song out loud; this proved especially hard for the last song “Bob the Builder”. Some of the highlights of the night were Dean being so confident of an answer he “bet his undies” on it, just to re-assure our readers he got to keep them as he was right!! There was Madonna, aka. Dave R, making an appearance-we have the photos to prove it!! Tam proved why she wears glasses now, she watched too much TV as a kid, providing us with lots of answers. Liz and Ado managed to get a golf ball lost in Ado’s boxers; she had to roll a ball up one leg and down the other. They also danced their hearts out to a song from grease. Ian surprised all with his knowledge on a diverse range of music. Deb won a phone in the door raffle and another entrant begged and pleaded to buy it from her. Liz almost got knocked out in the musical chairs game. And of course the boys loved their jugs….. of beer!! On behalf of all my team mates we would like to thank Southern for inviting us to a fantastic event and making us feel extremely welcome. I think a new club friendship has been formed between us with upcoming events from both clubs being advertised to each other to give everyone more opportunities to get their cars out. Hopefully with the competition from events like Springcar we will encourage other clubs and people to get their cars out and perhaps join either or both clubs. Bring on the next trivia night. - Tam and Paul |
