After 4 straight years of stinking hot drag days in Feb and March, this year we took a gamble and slotted the drag day back to late April, hoping for good cold racing weather. We nearly pulled it off too… but not quite! After only an hour and a half of racing, Helen and Deb were lining each other up on the start line when the rain came down and the racing was officially over…. A real shame with 54 entered cars, made up of Eastsider's, Southern Streeter's, and NVS Rides cars. Whilst many of us were fortunate enough to at least get in 3 or 4 runs, many others only had 1 or 2 runs, and four unlucky people didn't get to race at all - a long drive back home for a stiff drink was in order for Warren (XD Falcon), Leigh (HQ Monaro), Rick (LX Torana), and Issy (Skyline R34). Next year guys. With such a short day, surprisingly we still managed to award 2 "Hard Luck" trophies: 2007 TrophiesHard Luck Trophy 1 - Sam C. (broken axle in his LH Torana sedan) Hard Luck Trophy 2 - Tim L. & Lee G. (trailer/tow car incident on the way up) - boys you can fight over the trophy, sorry to hear about the drama's. Light Of The Day - Kevin P. (XR6) Well anyway, the short window in which we did manage to get some racing in, was quite spectacular. It saw the big debut of Mark's freshly completed HG 'UNRULY', which looked a million bucks after the rebuild. No more Grandpa car, that thing is now a real head turner. Pete from the Southern Street Machiner's got the crowd cheering with some awesome launches in his HQ sedan, resulting in a well earned 10.95 ET, and also bragging rights of fastest car of the day. Fastest bike on the day was Mark's RR Fireblade, running a lazy 10.30. Steve's blown XT got my vote for toughest car. I would really love a supercharger but I'll keep dreaming. Macka was also getting some good times from his XW Ute, and like many others, the best times were still to come. And how good did Kaz's TOYRX look and sound tearing down the strip! Congrats on the 12. I could keep going for ages about results, but I'll just let you check them out for yourselves on the following page. As always, it was fantastic to see such a huge variety of makes and models getting involved, and good to see so many of the girls tearing down the strip too. It's what makes these club days so good. Whoever bought the rain though - please stay home next year! Unfortunately the DYO trophies are still sitting up at Heathcote, as we didn't get to run it this year. They will have to keep for another time. Well that's about all from me, but I'll leave you with this... As Gary from Southern Street Machiner's kept informing me (repeatedly) - "It never rains at Southern's drag days". Thanks for letting us know that Gary... Smart-ass... The ResultsHere are most of the results from 2007 (in order by scrutineering list). I have tried my best to compile a thorough list, apologies to anyone I missed on the day, or didn't manage to catch up with since. Thanks to all those who emailed in their times!
