T'was a week before Christmas and when all through Spotlight car park, Not a car wasn't running when we met before dark. The cars were all gleaming they were polished with care, 40 odd cars rolled in and some new ones were there. The entourage headed onto Canterbury road, And drove towards the city, most cars with a full load. With directions a little sketchy & half the group getting lost, We re-grouped in Eltham, just a small bit of time cost. Then on we keep cruising to "Rich-o-Ville", There were some awesome houses up on the hill, I'll give the hot tip to all of my mates, I wouldn't mind living in even one of their gates. It was about dusk by this time when we drove through the street, I still can't get over the houses; they were just so darn neat! As it was dusk not all the lights were on But we looked at all the deco's; I think I was following John. As we drove away from the castles and such, It left me thinking bout all that money and how I don't have much. Through Warrandyte we went and down the main street I know, For the guys out the front of the pub we put on a show. I knew in that moment, the prez DC, Was happy with the turn out as he shouted with glee (whatever that means) And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; "Now, Torana! Now, Falcon! Now, Commo and Monaro! On, Van! On Coupe! On, Ute and Wagon! To the top of the Glenpark Drive! We were all having a ball! Now look at the lights! Look at them! Look at them all!" As the rest of the crowd was looking through there, Jay & I dashed off to the petrol station 'cos the tank was bare. As we pulled into the church car park we saw something so sweet To see that kind of Christmas spirit was a really nice treat. There was music and lights and a nice little set, Of a nativity scene that would have taken them ages I bet. We stayed there for a bit and had a look around, Some of us were happy just taking in the sounds. After we'd mingled and had a bit of a rest We were off to see the best of the best. To Lilydale we go onto Lakeview Drive This one I especially liked number five.. The Houses -- how they twinkled! This night, oh how merry! The street lined with roses, my sunburn red like a cherry! Sorry back to the subject of the Christmas light cruise The people in this street have nothing to loose; Expect all the money from their electricity bill, We should all do it again this year, I know I will! After we'd done a lap of the street twice, We headed on our way and pondered wasn't that nice! He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, I realised it was DC and now I'm going to be dead; I'm hoping he'll know this is just payback, For all those times where his manners were slack, We ended up at Lilydale Lake, This is the end for yours and my sake. We sprang to our cars, to our team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard DC exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night." - Bec |
