Christmas Party Spit Roast & Car Show

Sun 2nd December 2007

Sunny skies and warm temperatures - it was perfect weather for the annual Christmas party get-together. This year, we cruised our way out to Wandin East Recreational Reserve, and what a ripper of a location, with beautiful green grass to park our cars on, and a massive oval all completely to ourselves. With trees providing shade, and toilets on the other side of the oval… I'm sure everyone will agree that our trusty President could not have picked a better spot.

A quick count during the afternoon showed that close to 40 cars turned up, and it was fantastic to see them all looking a million bucks parked in formation, making for a good car show at the same time. All the "weekend hotties" had been dragged out of their garages too as expected on such a nice day. We noticed many people driving past were slowing down to see what was going on throughout the afternoon too.

Steering away from our usual barbie lunch of snags and burgers, we tried something different this year, enlisting the services of "Hot Rod's Roasts" to provide us with a fully catered spit roast lunch. It was a great feed, complete with a huge selection of salads as well. We've had massive amounts of positive feedback so it looks like the money spent was well worth it. The committee had decided on the catering to reward the members and thank you all for another great year being involved with the club. The day was all about relaxing, catching up with everyone and just having a good social time. So a big thank you to everyone who attended. The Christmas party has really turned into a great run over the last couple of years, consistently getting bigger and better.

Shortly after lunch the bearded man in the red suit who we call Santa dropped by in his 4X4 Offroad Navara Sleigh, decked out with three-quarter length pants (perhaps Santa needs some new pants for Christmas?). The kids flocked to him yelling and screaming, but walked away with huge grins on their faces after scoring enough candy to send them hypo for the rest of the afternoon!! Haha well done Santa.

After that, several people decided to take advantage of the beautiful scenery and snap some photos of their cars out on the oval. A TV had also magically appeared from somewhere enabling everyone to keep an eye on the final V8 Supercar round at Phillip Island. And so that was it for another year - people slowly cruised off to head back home along the windy roads, while others hung around to kick back well into the arvo.

Thanks Mr. President for finding such a great venue and for arranging the lunch with Hot Rod's Roasts (big thumbs up from me!). Can't wait for the next one.
