Well it all started at 11:15am in the FTG Motel car park, after some chatting and receiving instructions and entry forms from Mackie, all 15 of us piled into vehicles for the trek down to the LeMans Grand Prix Track in Dandenong. We got down there where a few more members met us, and parked in a row against the fence so as everyone who was leaving could do some drooling, at our mini show, and we went inside and after receiving the spiel, we all headed out to the ‘lake side’ track, which has only been open for 3 months now, and we jumped into the new, but very uncomfortable karts and fired them up… We started with a 10 lap qualifying, which included quite a few touches of the tyre walls as everyone got used to the karts, and after the 10 laps we lined up in a grid formation ready to start the 20 lap race, I for one was lovely and sweaty by the time the race was ready to go, the temp was heading up to 38 degree’s… We took off and it was on, quite a few offs but we did set some cracking speeds, up to 80km’s, and some of us, me included, found some tyre walls, but no one was too injured as we climbed off the karts, except for some sore backs and butts we were all pretty good… Then upstairs for some trophies and some beer at the bar, and a good chat while we all cooled off in the new air conditioned facilities. It was a great day, although very hot, enjoyable drive down there, great fun on the karts, lots of great drift. Recommend to all for next year!!! - Davo (HJ Kinga Wagon) PART 2Well well, let me start by saying I had an absolute ball, not quite as many people rocked up as the previous Go Kart day but we all still had fun. The racing consisted of a 10 lap qualifying session, followed by a 20 lap race. Scotty Scriven pulled out the quickest lap with a time of 37.257 seconds. I was struggling to catch Aaron and Shhmik (Cliffy), at one stage I was second, nose to tail with Aaron, driving some bloody good lines and the little bugger just kept slowly pulling away, I was not impressed. There were a few crashes of the day, one I witnessed was a bumper to bumper push into the tight section of left, right, left, right, Adam in the front drifting caused Merrin to lock up and nearly spin off, causing me to find a whole new angle of steering whilst locked up causing BIG DAVE behind me to spin off into the tyres. Another incident was Leigh Mackie running into the tyres at full speed just after the fastest section of the track, he was a bit sore afterwards. My cart had a sticking accelerator which gave me a perfect excuse 4 my entry into the pits, last corner before the pits is a sharp left and I was travelling flat out, I drifted around Merrin, narrowly missing her and just skimming the tyre wall then sideways around into the pits and smack bang into a stationary cart which I sent flying onto the track, I’m sure I could have stopped if I really wanted to but I used the sticky accelerator as my excuse hehehe. After such a great day, I think go carting should be a monthly event on the calendar, I’m definitely keen for that. - Stormy (Treasurer/Nutcase) And The Podium Results…
