Rye “Carnie Cruise” – Swingers Run

Sat 13th January 2007

It all started off at the packed car park of the Kilsyth Club. Drivers keys in the bowl and passengers to pick their unsuspecting chauffer. The route was pretty straight forward (well that’s what Gav thought any way) so it made for a nice easy cruze where not much concentration was needed. It gave us a chance to chat to our passengers and get to know the members of the club a little better.

It was a hot day so the windows were down or the air con was on. The first stop was at the Macca’s/Red Rooster after the first massive roundabout on the way to Hastings. The area was massive so it made for easy parking. Change of passengers took place again.

If I remember rightly it was this leg where a quarter of the group went straight at a certain round about instead of turning right. Myself included. Lucky I had Q in the car with me and he knew a short cut which helped us catch up to the rest of the group. It was grouse on the long straight where every second car had an Eastside sticker on the window. The buggy probably wasn’t the best lead car but it helped us stay all together instead of racing off into the sunset.

The second stop was out the front of Chisholm Institute where we had a very persistent yellow Torana checking out the action but not actually coming too close. We re-grouped and exchanged keys and we were on the home stretch. Parking at Rye wasn’t as easy to find as at the first stop. Once every one got together at the Carnie we headed across the road for some tea. And then it was off to play games and hit all the rides. Plenty of the group came away with huge teddies and of course all the weird and wonderful Carnie prizes.
