Eastside Cruisers 6th Birthday Party

Sat 12th July 2008

Six years is a an impressive amount of years to have been running as a club, not only that after 6 years we are a very well known, respected and financial car club. It had been a couple of years since we last celebrated our clubs birthday, so I thought this year was the year to put on a party for the club. All the hard work of fundraising throughout the years had paid off, cos this meant we could give back to the members with the works. The guys at Garfield’s were only too happy to help us out on the night and let us have the room free; we organized to have the night catered which meant no one had to be stuck in a kitchen cooking.

The night kicked off at 7.30pm started off a bit slow, like any party. But once the drinks were flowing, everyone seemed to be having heaps of fun. I know the committee in particular let there hair down for the night. This was a nice end to the year for the committee, a chance we could sit back and have fun with the rest of the members. The Jukebox was cranking all night, the slideshow had lots of interest which featured the last 6 years of the clubs history, from cruises to video footage from the last DECA day. Thanks to all who provided us with footage and pics!!

Dave J, Sime and DC all gave a speech about the clubs history, for some this was educational as most new members don’t know the story how the club was formed or what we have done in the past years. We had a special presentation on the night, with Brett none the wiser, we had a trophy made up which had engraved his statistics from being on the committee for the whole 6 years. These of course were made up as there is no way of telling just how many hours Brett has spent working on things for the club. It was a well deserved award. And I still can’t believe we managed to keep it secret from him for so long. Hehe.

The 5 year membership was announced, this went to Jamie Grey. Congrats Jamie, your now stuck with the club for the next 5 years!!! We played the traditional Coin Toss game. A Jim Beam Bottle which Gavin Thomas had kindly donated was up for grabs. There weren’t as many contenders as usual but they were still throwing their money away nice and fast to win the bottle. The final winner was Tate Marchi.

We had many Lucky Door Prizes, the main prize was a Hour Flight with our very own Gavin Thomas over the Yarra Valley. Other items on the night were, Bendigo Bank $50 start up accounts, Bottle of Vodka, Kenwood Safety packs, Grunt Files DVD, Eastside Cruiser clothing pack, Car Cleaning pack, Body Shop pack, Speco Clock and a Wine Bottle Opener. Congrats to all the lucky winners.

Next up we had the mini auction. The auctioneer on the night was Mackie, with the committee assisting him. We had a Springnats entry donated by Les Adams which went for $135.00 to Scott Woodyard. A Teng Tools Tool Kit which was donated by Tony at Summit Auto, this was won by Gary from Southern’s for $240. This was a contest between DC and Gary, I don’t know who wanted it more, I just don’t think they both wanted the other to win it. 1 pair of Tie Down Straps donated by Renee Carbone, these went for $100 to stormy. See what alcohol does, it apparently makes you buy what you already have many sets of. A signed T-Shirt Donated by Kelly Power. This t-shirt had signatures from Peter Brock, Mark Skaife, Larry Perkins and many other V8 super car drivers. This fetched $115.00 won by Mish. And well that was the last of the auction items I had for the night, but some of the guys thought it would be fun to auction off Stormy!! Who ever won, got stormy for a day to clean there cars inside and out, and the lucky winner was Renee who paid $50 for Stormy’s service’s.

From the feedback I’ve heard and from all the sore heads the next day, it’s clearly obvious everyone who attended had a ball. Hope we can do this again next year!!! I’d just like to thank all the committee and members who helped on the night. From standing at the door checking everyone in, to helping set up and run the night. The night wouldn’t have been what it was without your help!! And thanks to Southern Street Machiners who came along to help celebrate our night.

I’d also like to thank all who sponsored the night, donating items for us to auction off, and for the lucky door prizes.
