In Typical Renee Style it was only at the last minute that the decision was made to take the Jailbar out for a run with my Dad and go have a look at what was on offer at the 3rd Mountain District Car & Bike Show. The day was a sweltering 40-45 degrees and I had absolutely no idea where we were going only that we had to head in the Wandin Direction. After failing miserably to find the destination I made several phone calls to various members until I was finally able to get correct directions. (Thanks Helen and Paul). We arrived at the gate and decided we would actually enter instead of just parking in the general plebe parking. On Entry and talking to the organisers we discovered that they were significantly down on the numbers that they had expected due to the intense heat. So up we went and found a car park and realised that yes numbers were a lot lower than expected, I would have estimated that there was about 50-70 cars and roughly 30 or so bikes on display. So not big numbers at all but the variety and the quality of those that had attended were quite good. We wandered around looking at all the cars and bikes for a while. During this time the heat was just getting beyond a joke, drinks were getting hot faster than you were physically able to drink them. The wind was picking up a lot, so the whole venue was just turning into a big dust bowl. After the Fundraising Auction had finished we went enough's enough, it’s time to get out of this heat. So we headed back towards the car when we noticed that the neighbouring smoke had got a lot larger and you could now smell it in the air. As we were leaving the venue, there were 5 CFA Trucks that went barrelling past in different directions which was not a good sign of things to come. Overall I think that if the event had of fallen on a day other than the day now famously known as Black Saturday and the weather wasn’t so intense, it would have been a much bigger turnout, as people wouldn't have hesitated bringing their pride and joy’s out for the day. Hopefully next year everything will fall into place for them a lot better. It was bad luck and bad timing for the organisers. - Renee |
