Well where to start, I’ve been a bit slack lately missing a few of the club runs and this was actually my first Eastside DECA day. I guess I didn’t know what I was missing out on. My story started about 2 weeks before the event, when I realised I was going to be in Melbourne, so I shot Deb an email and pleaded for an entry. The Friday came around and my boss let me have the weekend off so straight after I landed in Melbourne at 9:30pm I got straight in the car and cruised to Shep. Managed to get to the camping grounds around 12am Saturday morning and everyone was still out and about having a few drinks, with all the cars shined up and prepared for a weekend thrashing. Saturday morning meant getting to DECA for an 8am start, which felt way too early but that was soon forgotten, after a run in the Go to Whoa. I don’t know about everyone else but that puddle at the end of the run made for some interesting stops and I noticed a few people stopping on the line facing sideways or the wrong way. After the skid pan dried up it was time for some real fun with The Corkscrew and 4 Leaf Clover, was awesome trying to get the car to slide the whole run (I’m now hanging for some more boost, after watching the drift boys). Sunday was more of the same with The Fuel Surge and Expression Session being the stand out events for me. I lost count of how many times I spun the car but it was awesome. I definitely wasn’t on my own as I watched everyone else spin, as the events were nice and challenging. Unfortunately I had to run off early, as I had to go back to QLD for work, so I didn’t get to hear all the stories. But next year I’m definitely taking the Monday and Friday off to make it a big weekend away.
