I headed up to the Holden Drag Nationals on the 3rd/4th of October to compete in the Super Street class which was the 10.00-11.99 bracket. There was also an LS1 bracket but I decided to enter Super Street as I have raced LS1's before and preferred to be able to line up against some old school cars for something different. The Saturday was a test and tune session and qualifying, Sunday was eliminations and finals. On the Saturday I was running consistently and ended up running 10.79@132mph with a 1.66 60' time on my drag radials as the track was hooking up a lot better than the last few times I'd been there. The standard of cars seemed to be a bit down overall as there were only a handful of quick cars (9.99 or faster) which was a little disappointing. The event was also jointly organised with Street Commodores Cruise for Charity so on the Saturday when the cruise turned up there was literally hundreds of cars and a few thousand people which took 3 hours for them to all get into the track. My highlight from the day was the qualifying for the Super Street bracket as when they called us up there was a full field of drag cars that were all taken up on trailers with open pipes rumbling to the start lines along with my daily driven SV8 cruising along in the middle. In that pass I raced an LJ Torana that ran 10.9 and I did a 10.8 so it was good fun to be able to mix it up with them. There was meant to be a second qualifying session on the Sunday morning before the finals but this never happened as the Sunday was washed out without any racing being able to be done. Overall I really enjoyed the weekend with my car running a new PB and being able to mix it up with the drag cars. - Brett SS |
