After months and months of hard work organising this great night I was thrilled when the night was finally here and what a success it was. We sold 87 tickets for the night which was a really good number in the end. The tables all had different numbers of people on them, but never the less it still worked out.
The trivia night was held this year at Garfield's in FTG and this time around we used the very talented Quizking. The night consisted of around 5 rounds, which consisted of topics such as general knowledge, sport, music, movies, and famous faces. Throughout the night we had many prizes up for grabs, with 4 major door prizes:
If you didn't win anything from the lucky door prizes then there was every chance you would win something from the raffle tickets we were selling on the night. DC worked his magic and had everyone buying heaps of tickets. The thing everyone wanted to win was the free Springnats 2007 entry.
On top of raffle draws we also had a few games on the night. First up, tables 1 - 4 had to select one person from their table to compete in Sale of the Century. Their fantastic buzzers being their best impression of a chicken. I think a few clearly don't know what a chicken sounds like. Hehe. The winner received a choice of Meguiar's packs or Grunt Files DVD and also received points for their table.
The next game was Roulette, I didn't know how this game was going to go, I was sure it was going to be something no one would participate in, but to my surprise everyone gave it a crack. There were four large cards hung up around the room - Black, Red, Even or Odd, and players selected one and stood next to the card, with a $2 buy-in for Round 1. The Quizking would then turn over a card from his deck. For those who won, they made it through the next round and didn't have to pay, the losing players, had the choice to re-enter the game, but there was a fee of another $2 and this figure continued to go up until it reached $10.
As DC, Kath, Brett and myself stood at each corner of the room, we were amazed to see our money containers filling up pretty quickly. There were many tables trying to keep one of their table members in the game by supplying them with more money to stay in. The winner was finally awarded and won $50 cash and a back pack chock full of goodies.
One of the funniest games for the night was the LIMBO. Tables 5 - 9 selected one person to go up and have a go at the limbo. Anyone who hit the pole or fell over going under the pole, were out for the game. The funniest part was watching my mate Benetti who is not far off 7 foot tall attempting to get under, but surprisingly he made it under again and again, till he got down to the final 3. But he was never going to win against Bec, who I hear through her back out that night winning the competition!!!
The last game for the night was the famous Coin Toss game. We had a Cowboys pack up for grabs but seeing how a square box was an easy target we used a empty wine bottle to throw the coins at. There were the usual crew spending heaps of money trying to win the alcohol, but there was also a few new people who were quite inquisitive, and after sussing out what was the best approach was, they all had a go too.
For the overall winning table on the night, we presented them with some Eastside Trivia Night Winners Medallions, which also went with a nice bottle of red or white De Bortoli Wine. And not to forget the losing table, they were handed some Speco keyrings.
So how much did the club profit on the night from the ticket sales, raffles, roulette game, and coin toss game? A whopping $1,400. I can't believe I was stressing at one point that we weren't going to fundraise any money and to my surprise we earned all this money for the club. I'd love to make this an annual event as I've heard heaps of good feedback about the night and how much fun everyone had. So look out for this event next year as it might just be an annual event from now on.
Without the sponsors this night wouldn't have been as much of a success as it was, on behalf of all the car club I'd like to thank all the sponsors who donated items for the night.
I'd just like to thank a few people for all their help on the night. To all the friendly Garfield's staff for providing the function room to us and for working their butts off for us on the night. To Kath, DC and Brett for assisting me on the night and making the night a success!! And lastly to everyone who attended the night, this wouldn't have been a success without you all. I hope you all had a great night and I look forward to seeing you all there next time we run this event.
