hi guys, thinking of sealing the concrete floor in my garage - any tips? which sealant should I use?

Did you end up doing this yet Eric? Keen to hear what you used, I have no idea myself. I'll be doing the same thing later down the track sometime.

I used Aqua Epoxy. It's a water based two component floor sealer.

I have used several different brands on several different drive ways/concrete floors, and that was the only one that didn't flake off in high wear areas after 12 months!

Aqua epoxies are good, they go down easy, arent as sesitive to contaminants in the concrete as solvent based epoxies. Down side is that they dont stick as hard as solvent based epoxy.

If you ony want to stop your floor from dusting, you may considder applying a concrete densifier. This is a clear product, cheaper than almost any concrete paint. It will dustproof the floor as well as harden the concrete. Unlike paint though, it wont be as smooth but, it is 100 times less likely to delaminate.

thanks Josh, I ended up using Haymes heavy duty enamel paving paint, its a solvent based gloss paint - came up pretty good, area was approx 7m x 7m, the concrete just drank the stuff, had to acid bath the concrete first with hydrochloric acid. Needed 3 coats all up, painted over 3 days - 1 day prep, then 1 coat 2nd day, 2 coats 3rd day - much bigger job than I thought. used a big 15 litre tin.

Looks like a great result.

Came up well! Mine started cracking as soon as I started rolling jacks and stuff over it!
