Hey boys, got a question for the experienced ls1 guys, got a vt Ive gotta fit one onto, just wondering what's the best out there? Performance wise ans fitment! I done some homework the ramjet looks good all around but there fairly expensive, another thing how do you guys go modifying the aircon condensor to make them fit..? To be honest it seems like a crap thing to do but everyone does it :s so must be ok! lol

I've found the fiberglass/aluminium basic OTR wasn't enough airflow for my stroker, I was loosing a few psi in the inlet manifold at high rpm. The basic looking ones will supply enough air for a stock ls1.
I ended up going the DUSpeed (maybe try duspeed.com.au or google it) OTR for my car. Brett_ss also has the duspeed OTR. They look much better / kind of factory look to them in my own opinion. (i dont have a pic handy to post of mine, but it was on my the car at the esc caribbean gardens display of last year). They are however expensive, but I truly believe u get what you pay for. Maybe keep a eye out / put up a post on http://www.ls1.com.au for a wtb of the duspeed OTR. I bought mine new, it was approx $700-800 delivered, but have been as low as 400 on the for sale section.

As for the aircon, just push the coil down, works for me and no aircon gas leaks in over 8yrs I've had the car.

Good luck with it... Lettuce know if any other questions etc.

PS if it is a vt, have u upgraded the inlet manifold to a ls6 type?( all parts from the ls1 manifold will bolt into the same spot on the ls6 inlet. The ls6 was a better (internal) design inlet & it was standard on vx onwards, only the vt missed out and had the ls1 inlet. This could be worthwhile and was one of the first mods we did to my bro's vt ss to help it breathe/ flow better.
If you are just trying to get some induction noise, then the otr will achieve your goal, but if you are chasing better airflow to the heads, I would recommend changing the inlet to e ls6.

Beno is on the money as I also think the best OTR out there is the ones Dus makes. The one on my car was the prototype to suit the blower I have and he was awesome to deal with. As Ben said though they can set you back $700-800 but are the best on the market. I've put a pic of my engine bay from a while ago and one off the LS1 forum so you can see what they look like.

If you don't want to spend that sort of money the other option are the alloy OTR intakes from VCM Suite in Knox. They work quite well and are around the $420 mark. I've fitted a few of them to cars I have tuned, the latest one was Tony's VY clubby and a pic of it on his car is below.

Let us know if you need anymore info. :D

Like brett has said about the alloy OTR intake from VCM they work really good as well.

I have one on my VX SS and has made a real difference. To fit one you will need to hit down the first 2 or 3 rows on the aircon condensor to make it fit. Can use a rubber mallet or a timber block with a hammer and slowly tap each row down at a time.

My air condensor still works fine and have no issues with clearance.

Depends a lot on personal preference to think and how good your turner is. I ran the rAMJETon my 've and never had an issue. Likewise the vcm on my clubby now is great and I haven't had to bash the condenser to make it fit on mine.

Thanks for the replies fella's, dus one does look pretty very very neat in there! I had a look on ls1 for ones going cheap, none there atm :/ btw do you do tuning Brett?

Tony that VCM one looks nice on the vy, would of made a bit of difference i bet!

Been a stock Ls1 maybe the fiberglass one would be the go..? Fairly cheap, an should flow enough..?
